"This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about topography, orienteering, and survival skills in the real outdoors." Myner's warm chocolate-brown eyes flickered with pride. Myner rolled up the sleeves on his navy flannel lumber-jack shirt and revealed his muscular, too-tanned-for-February forearms. "Don't forget, Friday is the last day I am accepting checks for the Presidents' Day field trip to Lake Placid." Mr. Myner finally had the decency to change the subject and talk about something that the seventh-grade girls at Octavian Country Day School actually cared about. Massie closed her eyes and massaged her throbbing temples until Mr. And the more her nature-loving geography teacher droned on about the Earth's surface and how it determines the flow of a river, the worse her headache got. The thick, breathy smell of the artificial heat that blasted from the classroom's radiators made Massie Block's head pound. The story is fairly clear in its general outlines, but sometimes baffling on the specifics. To save himself, he has to use both brain and muscle, outrunning killers and outthinking lawyers, to save both his life and his license to practice law. Without revealing too much of the plot, I can say that McDeere is eventually being blackmailed simultaneously by both the FBI and the firm's security chief (kindly old Wilford Brimley, very effective in a rare outing as a villain). This one milks them for all they're worth. Some movies about the law oversimplify the legal aspects. An FBI man spills the beans: only a quarter of the clients are above-board, and the rest are thieves, scoundrels and money-launderers, with the firm's partners acting as bagmen shipping the money to offshore banks. And gradually McDeere begins to realize his new law firm is in league with the devil. They are provided with a house and a shiny new Mercedes - both bugged, as it turns out. Mitch moves to Memphis with his wife, Abby ( Jeanne Tripplehorn, the peculiar psychiatrist in " Basic Instinct"). The novel takes us from his desperate days in a coal mine in southern Belgium to his dazzling years in the south of France, where he knew the most brilliant artists (and the most depraved whores). Here is his tempestuous story: his dramatic life, his fevered loves for both the highest-born women and the lowest prostitutes, and his paintings-for which he was damned before being proclaimed a genius. The most famous of all of Stone's novels, it is the story of Vincent Van Gogh-brilliant painter, passionate lover, and alleged madman. "A story of excruciating power."- The New York Times The classic, bestselling biographical novel of Vincent Van Gogh Since its initial publication in 1934, Irving Stone's Lust for Life has been a critical success, a multimillion-copy bestseller, and the basis for an Academy Award-winning movie. But what truly makes some of her heroines stand out compared to others in the romance genre is their diversity. The heroines make significant strides in both their careers and relationships with friends and family. Zapata’s ability to craft incredible storylines for female characters is unparalleled. We see the heroine’s growth within the relationship, but outside of the relationship-as an individual- as well. Zapata is well-known within the indie community for her slow-burn romances, and her exceptional character development for both the heroine and hero. What do a p*rn star, a biker, a soccer phenomenon and a football player have in common? They’re all heroes in indie author Mariana Zapata’s novels- Kulti, The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, and Under Locke, to name a few-and only part of what makes her books so memorable.
